FERPA Policy: Privacy Notice, Student Consent, & Student Rights
In accordance with local, State and Federal requirements, information is collected about our student population to evaluate program effectiveness, community needs, etc. Students have a specific right not to share their social security number (SSN) in the collection of that data.
The Governing Board recognizes the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of directory information and therefore, authorizes the release of such information only in accordance with the law, Board Policy, and Administrative Regulations.
The Superintendent or designee may authorize the release of student directory information to representatives of the news media, employers, prospective employers or nonprofit organizations as provided by law. Colleges and military recruiters shall have access to student’s name, address, and telephone number upon request, unless student has specified in writing that the information shall not be released without prior consent.
FERPA Student Rights:
Fresno Adult School students have the right to inspect and review their education records, the right to seek to amend their records, the right to consent to disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from their records (except in certain circumstances), and the right to file a complaint with SPPO regarding an alleged failure by a school to comply with FERPA. The notification must also inform eligible students of the school’s criteria for the terms “school official” and “legitimate educational interest” in certain instances. A school is not required to notify eligible students individually, but rather is required to provide the 6 notice by any means that are reasonably likely to inform eligible students of their rights. These means could include publication in a school activities calendar, newsletter, student handbook, or on a school’s website. For more information on FERPA Student Rights:

Students With Disabilities Age 18-22
Fresno Unified School District serves students with disabilities from birth through the age of 22 in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that requires school districts to provide a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities. A “free appropriate public education” (FAPE) means special education (specially designed instruction) and related services are to be provided as described in an Individualized Education Program (IEP) at no cost to the parent/guardian/surrogate parent of children with disabilities or an adult student with disabilities ages 18 through 22. If you have a documented disability and are between the ages of 18-22, please contact Fresno Adult School’s registrar or counselors and we can help get you enrolled.
Students With Disabilities Who are Over 22 years old
Fresno Adult School makes every effort to arrange services and accommodations for any student with a documented disability no matter the students’ age. Students should make an appointment in the Fresno Adult School Counseling Center to meet with a counselor in order to arrange accommodations in the classroom. Fresno Adult School does not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission, access to, treatment or employment in, its programs and activities. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibits such discrimination.
