HEALTH OCCUPATIONS TRAINING - DAY PROGRAMS


Medical Assistant Training Program

Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, and other health practitioners running smoothly. Medical offices, clinics, and hospitals need medical assistants MORE than EVER! The Medical Assistant field is one of the fastest growing occupations in Fresno County, enroll in one of our FREE training programs today.


CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT

In this four-month, full-time "back office" medical assisting program, students will become proficient in performing electrocardiograms (EKG), phlebotomy (venipunctures), vital signs, administer injections (ID, SQ, & IM), and aseptic techniques for assisting with minor surgical procedures. This program offers theory (lecture), hands-on training (skills), and a 160-hour externship with local healthcare facilities.

Prerequisite: CTE Enrollment Session, Student Success Workshop, Computer Literacy and required test scores

ADMINISTRATIVE MEDICAL ASSISTANT

This four-month, part-time, hands-on class introduces the standard skills for all medical front office procedures such as book scheduling, numeric, and alphabetic filing, cross referencing, color coding, records control, and confidentiality issues will be covered. All filing rules are compatible with the Association of Records Managers and Administrations (ARMA) guidelines.

Prerequisite: CTE Enrollment Session, Student Success Workshop, Computer Literacy and required test scores

Additional: Word, Excel & successful completion of or current enrollment in Medical Terminology
Note: Word & Excel "Quick Courses" do not meet this prerequisite requirement.

NURSE ASSISTANT

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), also known as nurses aides, work under the supervision of a nurse and provide assistance to patients with daily living tasks. Working closely with patients, CNAs are responsible for basic care services such as bathing, grooming, and feeding patients, assisting nurses with medical equipment, and checking patient vital signs. CNAs give patients important social and emotional support and also provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses. This TUITION-FREE, 8-week training program meets daily for six (6) hours and combines theory, skills, and clinical training in order to prepare students to take the state certification exam for Certified Nursing Assistant. Clinical training takes place in local skilled nursing facilities.

Prerequisite: CTE Enrollment Session, Student Success Workshop, Computer Literacy and required test scores

Dates: Classes begin every 8 weeks
Days: Monday - Friday
Times: 8:00am-2:30pm (theory)
7:30am-2:00pm (clinical)

VOCATIONAL NURSE

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) provide patient care under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses (RNs). LVNs initiate basic data collection and assessments and provide care for patients who are sick, injured, convalescing, and have physical and mental disabilities. LVNs work in units such as medical, surgical, maternity, newborn, pediatric, intensive care and emergency, ambulatory/outpatient, and long-term care facilities. Their duties include evaluating and prioritizing patients' needs, assessments of vital signs, recording input and output of food an d fluids, treatments such as inserting foley catheters and nasogastric tubes, blood sugar testing and tube feedings, applying and changing dressings, and preparing and administering medications and certain intravenous fluids with IV certification. This TUITION-FREE 53-week program provides students with the theory and clinical experience needed to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Additional: Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Math, Medical Study Skills, LVN Workshop, and current CNA license.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

This 5-month course meets the requirements of the State of California and Fresno County Department of Health. The EMT-1A course is a comprehensive study in basic life support management of the patient in the emergency pre-hospital setting. A system-based approach allows the EMT to assess and treat the present problem and patient. Included in this course is 30 hours of hands-on lab time. This course qualifies students to take the EMT-Basic National Registry Exam.

Prerequisite: Student must obtain one of the following current and valid CPR cards: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer from the American Red Cross or AHA Health Care Provider CPR from the American Heart Association before the end of this class. Contact the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association for course locations.

MEDICAL BILLING TRAINING PROGRAM

In order to prepare to enter the Medical Billing field, take the following courses: Program prerequisites CTE Enrollment session, Student Success Workshop, Computer Literacy, Medical Terminology, and required test scores.

Insurance Billing: Practical understanding of the medical office, clinic, or hospital billing systems is the focus of this 16-week class. Billing procedures, practices, governmental medical programs, documentation, and workflow of insurance companies will be covered.

Medical Manager Discover the potential opportunities for employment in the medical office. Students will have hands-on training with Medical Manager Software to process and submit insurance claims.




MICROSOFT WORD AND EXCEL

Join us to learn how to effectively utilize Microsoft Word and Excel to create professional documents, business letters, labels, tables, and more! Students will also learn how to use time-saving features like mail merge, AutoText, AutoCorrect, e-mail and the Internet.

Prerequisite: CTE Enrollment Session, Student Success Workshop, Computer Literacy, &: required test scores.

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY

Learn the basic skills needed to build medical terms by using prefixes, suffixes, roots, and stems. Upon successful completion, students will be able to properly spell and pronounce medical terms and common abbreviations. A prerequisite for employment for many health care careers.

MEDICAL STUDY SKILLS

This 30-hour course is a prerequisite for Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Assistant Clinical as well as the LVN program and is designed to prepare students for college-level courses and rigorous vocational programs. Time mangement, study skills, note-taking, and reading strategies will be covered.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

Students will gain knowledge in the basic functions and structures of the human body, common diseases and malfunctions with associated terminology.

This course covers basic math skills with application to dosage calculation for metric, apothecary and household methods for the adult and pediatric patient.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

Fresno Adult School, in collaboration with Boston Reed College, is offering a 27-week Pharmacy technician Training Program. The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions, maintaining client records, referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling, assisting with inventory control and purchasing, as well as collecting payment and coordination billing. Classroom: 182 hours. Externship: 120 hours. >
